Moving Check List
Use It or Lose It
Go through every room of your house and get rid of any items that you have not used over a year
Order Supplies
Order boxes and other supplies such as tape, bubble wrap, permanent markers, and labels. Don’t forget to order specialty containers and crates such as dish barrels, wardrobe boxes, and wine crates.
Begin Packing
Start packing the things that you use less frequently. While packing think about whether any items need special care or extra insurance coverage.
Sort and Label
Clearly label and number each box with its contents and the room destined for. Pack and label “essentials” boxes of items you will need right away.
Separate Valuables
Items such as jewelry, money, and coin collection should be placed in a safe box that will be personally transported to your new home.
Confirm all arrangements
It is your responsibility to call a few days in advance to confirm all your moving details such as dates, costs, and any other arrangements.
Other things to keep in mind:
Prior to your move, take measurements of dimensions in each room to make sure large furniture pieces fit through door ways.
Fill out a change of address form at your local post office or online at usps.gov. Stay in contact with a close neighbor in case mail continues coming to you at your old address.
Notify important parties such as your bank, your employer’s human resources department, newspaper company.
Transfer your children’s school records.
Forward medical records.
